Amy Winehouse Could Have Tuberculosis | Brit Singer Still Planning To Do Glastonbury
Amy Winehouse was rushed to hospital on Monday after collapsing at home with suspected exhaustion. She has remained in hospital ever since and is still undergoing various scans and tests. However, reports are emerging that she could possibly be suffering from tuberculosis.
When she was taken to hospital on Monday by her doting father Mitch on Monday, it at first seemed to be as a precaution, but five days later, and things are not looking too good.

The Sun newspaper today reported that doctors suspect tuberculosis, a bacterial infection which is prevalent in developing countries and potentially deadly. She is said by sources to be suffering from a range of symptoms in line with suffering from the disease.
A close pal is reported to have said:
“Amy is in a bad way. Doctors are still struggling to control her heartbeat but the chest condition has been really worrying them.”
“She’d been suffering horrible coughing fits and hurling up blood for a while but refused to be examined. Doctors now believe it is tuberculosis and are doing more tests to be certain.”
As well as a raging chest infection, Amy has suffered severe weight loss, a lack of appetite, and an irregular heartbeat. Doctors obviously have the added burden of trying to wean her off hard drugs at the same time as treating her.
Winehouse has lost weight continuously since first arriving on the British music scene back in 2004, an issue I explored (along with a highly controversial comparison picture) a few months ago.
The pal continued:
“Things sound really bad, but at least now they have found something specific it will be easier to keep her in hospital and free from drugs.
“The word tuberculosis might frighten her into getting herself well. It certainly should do. She needs to realise she will die if she she doesn’t clean up her act.”
This latest health concern is obviously putting Amy’s planned appearances at Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday party in Hyde Park on June 27th, and at the Glastonbury Festival a few days later in to serious doubt.
Her spokesman told The Times:
“At present, she still intends to perform at the two scheduled dates next week. However, a decision will be made entirely upon the advice of her doctors and in her best interests.”
This wouldn’t be the first time that Winehouse has cancelled gigs, but at least this time she’d have a very good excuse. TB is one of the biggest killers in developing countries, but has been mostly wiped out in countries such as the UK and the US.
