Amy Winehouse Cries Off Sick Again | Pulls Out Of Paris Festival Headline Slot

Is there a month that goes by when Amy Winehouse isn’t “taken ill in her London home” these days? It’s now happened for the third time in the last couple of months, and it meant that Winehouse had to pull out of her headline slot at the Rock En Seine festival in Paris on Friday just a few hours before her appearance.

There’s no indication yet that she was actually taken to hospital this time, but it’s been confirmed that paramedics were called to the singers’ address on August 29th. Amy is now said to be recovering at home from whatever mystery ailment got her this time.

Winehouse was first taken to hospital in June after collapsing at her Camden home. She spent weeks being treated, with doctors finally diagnosing lung condition emphysema. Then she was rushed to hospital again at the end of July for “a reaction to medication”.

Now, near the end of August, Winehouse has been taken ill again. Can you see a pattern emerging?

Organisers of the three-day Rock En Seine festival claim that they were only told she wouldn’t be showing two hours before she was due on stage. And that there had been no explanation for her non-appearance.

Winehouse’ spokesman told BBC News:

“Amy Winehouse was regrettably unable to perform at the Rock En Seine show in Paris due to illness. She was taken ill at her house and wasn’t able to travel to France for the concert.”

I don’t mean to sound harsh but isn’t this all getting a little tiresome? Sure, if she’s ill, she’s ill, but these constant reports of hospital visits and paramedic call-outs, especially timed as they are, makes me wonder what the real reasons are behind it all.

I also feel bad for the Parisians who missed out on seeing Winehouse headline their festival. Although, if they’d seen how badly Winehouse performed at the V Festival they would have probably avoided her set like the plague anyway.

There are now doubts surrounding Winehouse’ planned appearance at the Bestival festival on the Isle Of Wight next Saturday, which is due to be Amy’s last live performance before she takes a break. My money is on a no-show.
