Amy Winehouse Faces Norway Court Case

by Dave Parrack on December 28th, 2007

Amy Winehouse Faces Norway Court CaseAmy Winehouse’s hopes of enjoying a nice new year, and maybe putting the troubles of 2007 behind her, look like failing miserably.

Not only is she now classed as a suspect in her husband Blake Fielder-Civil’s trial fixing case, she has also been summoned to Norway to appear in court over the charges of drug use she was fined for in October.

Winehouse was originally arrested back on October 18th in the Norwegian town of Bergen. Her, hubby Fielder-Civil, and a friend, were arrested and held on charges of drug possession after the police found marijuana in their hotel room.

The trio were held for 12 hours before being fined 500 Euros and being set free. That was thought to be the end of the case, but Norwegian police lawyer Rudolf Christoffersen has now said she must appear in court in the country on February 29th.

Christoffersen said (Via NME):

“The Gulating court (in Bergen) sent us a letter dated December 18, 2007, stating that … this case cannot be tried in absentia.”

“[Back in October] they were interrogated by a police officer who speaks fluent English … and they paid the fine on the spot.”

It never rains but it pours, especially for Ms. Winehouse. The thing is, as much sympathy as I have for her, she’s got herself in to her own mess, and at some point is going to start paying the price.

This court case should be over quite quickly, as having a bit of weed on you isn’t the crime of the century. The trial fixing case could be a bit trickier though, and it remains to be seen what sort of mental state Amy is in after that pans out.
