Amy Winehouse’ Spokesperson Denies Emphysema Diagnosis - Father Was Wrong

by User ImageDave Parrack on June 24th, 2008

Mitch Winehouse Wrong Emphysema Diagnosis_ncAmy Winehouse’ father Mitch claimed on Sunday that the Rehab singer had been diagnosed with emphysema. Now, just 2 days later, her US spokesperson Tracey Miller has denied the claim, and played down the dire state of her health.

Mitch gave an interview with a Sunday newspaper in which he divulged many details over the state of Amy’s health and what treatment she had been receiving since being hospitalised a week ago.

He claimed she had been diagnosed with emphysema, and only had 70% lung capacity.

Now, Tracey Miller, Winehouse’ US representative, has denied the diagnosis. In an interview with The Associated Press she stated that rather than being told she has full-blown emphysema, she is merely showing early sign if the disease which normally affects people over 45 who have smoked all their life.

I think that there has obviously been some confusion over the references to emphysema. It’s likely, seeing as Winehouse is only 24 years of age, that she is only exhibiting the early signs rather than the full disease. However, we can’t really blame Mitch for misinterpreting as it’s his daughter and he is obviously quite upset over the whole thing.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph reports that Winehouse left hospital for two hours today to rehearse for her appearance at the concert for Nelson Mandela in London’s Hyde Park this Friday. This also opens up the possibility of her being able to appear at Glastonbury the next day.
