Amy Winehouse Told To Stay Clean Or Have Album Canned - Record Label Ultimatum
Amy Winehouse has been issued an ultimatum from her record label which could see her never release another album. At least if she doesn’t get clean, and then stay clean in the build up to the promotion of her forthcoming third album.
Just a few days after I reported that her album has been put back to 2009, after she cancelled a trip to the Bahamas intended to be a recording session away from her usual haunts and vices, it seems that her record company aren’t willing to wait forever.
According to The Sun, chiefs at Universal Music issued the stern ultimatum in order to remind Winehouse of her responsibilities. Apparently, the warning came from Lucian Grainge, who issued a similar clean up order last year which saw Winehouse finally enter rehab.
A source told the newspaper:
“Amy has been reminded of her responsibilities. Unless she is clean she will not be allowed to release another album. She took notice when Lucian talked to her earlier in the year and agreed to go to rehab. But she didn’t take it seriously enough.”
“They would never release her from her deal, they would just not put an album out. The label were not impressed. She has been warned about her behaviour and needs to keep the standards up.”
There are also suggestions that this could be the last album of her current deal. With the amount of time, money and resources that the record company devote to Amy, they must be wondering whether its worth it.
However, with her second album, Back To Black, still doing well in the UK charts, and her star rising in the US, surely they realise there’s still a few bucks to be made off her?!
Even if they do decide enough is enough, there’ll be record labels queuing up around the block to sign her up. Basically, they all need her much more than she needs them.
