Britney Spears Put On Fake British Accent For Doctors During Hospital Sanity Test
Britney Spears troubles continued last week as she was taken in to a mental hospital for sanity tests after allegedly kidnapping her two boys.
What’s this got to do with British music you may be asking yourself? Well, nothing much except for the fact that Britney is currently seeing a British guy, and bizarrely decided to use his accent when talking to her doctors.
For those of you who have never visited these shores, then you may not know about the Midlands town of Birmingham, or the strange creatures who inhabit the place, which we call Brummies.
They are a weird breed of humans, and although British, their accent really sets them apart from the rest of the UK. It displays none of the delightful tone that the Geordies treat us too, and none of the wild, rough overtone which the Scottish let rip on our ears. Instead it’s a strange concoction of farmer, mixed with American redneck.
I was already surprised to see Britney having a boyfriend from Birmingham, but to then find out she tried to imitate his accent to prove to doctors she is perfectly sane, is well, beyond my understanding of anything.
Her Brummie boyfriend Adnan Ghalic has, by all accounts, a pretty strong Birmingham accent, and I’d love to hear Britney taking it off. Maybe she could use it in her next song… if her career isn’t already over.
The reports that she used the accent while being assessed at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center first appeared in a British tabloid, so the accuracy of those reports are open to interpretation.
A hospital source explained to The Daily Star:
“It was bizarre, Britney thought she was British and kept the voice up for much of her stay.”
It’s an image that I never want to leave my head again: Britney spouting bizarre British rants while being strapped down and wheeled in to see various experts, and onlookers. Man, her life gets more bizarre by the day.

Every country has their Brummies. The French have the Basque; Canada has the Newfiees; States the Rednecks. The question is, why the hell would you imitate that to a doctor. Lets face it, she’s the definition of insane.

I was as amused as everyone to hear that Britney adoped my home city’s accent during her hospital stay. And when Dave’s blog turned to this topic, I ploughed through the first few paragraphs hoping he’d say something unflattering about Brummie accent for a quick laugh. And he didn’t disappoint! And Kyle’s response linking the Brum accent to general insanity was even more amusing. Keep it up, everyone. We in Birmingham absolutely love this. It’s funny every time. Every single f***ing time.

I’m a Newfoundlander and am highly offended to be listed as Canada’s version of “rednecks”. I realize that we are recognized for our variety of Irish-influenced dialects here, but the term “redneck” is indicative of ignorance and lack of education. Someone’s dialect should not earn them a such a reputation, when it generally is not the case! Please rethink your labels - they are not only hurtful and rude, but ignorant as well. The majority of my friends, family and even casual acquaintances have at least one university degree, and for the most part, more than one).

Redneck is not a dialect, it was orrigenally used to mean a farmer because they work in the feilds and got sun burned on there necks.
