Ian Brown States No Stone Roses Reunion - For At Least Three Lifetimes AKA Ever

The Stone Roses are one of the best bands to have ever come out of Britain, but their musical legacy was pitifully small due to only two albums being produced before they split up. Although that was way back in 1996, there have been numerous calls for them to reunite from the public and band members alike.
The split was somewhat acrimonious, and so the chances of a reunion seemed to be as likely as The Verve or The Police getting back together, both of whom also split up due to band tension. Now those two have managed it, although The Police have now split again after picking up their hefty pay cheques, maybe The Stone Roses could follow?
Mani, the bassist for the legendary Madchester indie band, certainly thinks it could happen, and stated that lead singer Ian Brown was the only original member against the idea. Now, Ian Brown has confirmed that view, and gone on to state quite categorically that he would never be involved with a Stone Roses reunion.
In an interview with The Guardian newspaper, he was asked whether the reunion could ever happen. He responded: “No chance… not in the next three lifetimes”. A no would have sufficed, but I think that’s a definite then.
It seems as though Brown just wants to put The Stone Roses to bed once and for all, he’s moved on, and wants the world to embrace his solo material instead. Unfortunately, at least in my view, Ian Brown’s solo stuff is pretty bad, and certainly not a patch on anything The Stone Roses produced.
The interview wasn’t even about The Stone Roses, with Brown instead wittering on about his love for The Sex Pistols.
“The Sex Pistols are the best band that’s ever been. I think they’ve got the best set of songs any band has had, any time.”
“No one ever [has come close]. Nowhere near. In the last 30 years there’s not been anyone. People haven’t got that courage that they had.”
The Sex Pistols were good for their time, and deserve the plaudits they receive, but no way are they the best band ever. Having said that, nor are The Stone Roses - that accolade goes to The Beatles. But even I’m wittering now as the realisation has just dawned on me that The Stone Roses will never reunite, how depressing.
