James Bond Bosses Dithering Over Amy Winehouse Theme Tune - Beyoncé Instead?

I’ve been avoiding talking about Amy Winehouse and her efforts to become the next Bond girl, well singer of the theme tune at least, mainly because it was just speculation and I wanted to wait until the official announcement was made.

But this isn’t that, instead it’s more rumour, speculation and gossip about it all… I just couldn’t resist.

It’s been known for a while that bosses of the latest Bond film, Quantum of Solace have been looking at Winehouse as a possible candidate for the theme tune. First it was on, then off (with the studio heads probably concerned about the negative connection with drink and drugs and a jailbird husband) and still nothing has been decided.

Winehouse and Mark Ronson, her friend and producer are reported to have fallen out earlier in the month while trying to record the theme together, with Ronson claiming in the press that she wasn’t ready to make music. But now it seems that they are mates again, and back trying to come up with a winning theme song.

Speaking at the Ivor Novello Awards on Thursday night, Winehouse said:

“I’ve written the song. If they like it they like it, if they don’t they don’t.”

Before Ronson added:

“If I talk about it Daniel Craig will whack me in the eyes. Amy wrote the song on an acoustic guitar. It was my job to help with the arrangement and realise the sound that we were going for. So that was my role.”

But nothing has yet been decided, and Beyoncé Knowles is now rumoured to also be up for the gig. She is said to be in discussions with movie bosses, and planning a collaboration with legendary Bond composer John Barry.

Now Winehouse has expressed her displeasure at being messed about and claimed that the movie bosses are dithering needlessly. She told the Daily Star Sunday:

“I’ve done loads of Bond songs, there are loads of good ones I’m really happy with. I don’t know what is wrong with them or what the problem is, to be honest. It’s there, ready and done, and it’s up to them if they want it or not.”

I personally hope Winehouse does get the gig as she and her voice are very fitting to the whole franchise. It also helps that she is British, as 007 himself is also British after all. As good a singer as Beyoncé is, I can’t see her in the role of Bond theme songstress.

Quantum of Solace is due out on October 31st so bosses better get their decision made sooner rather than later.
