Keane Finishing Up Third Album | Follow Up To ‘Under the Iron Sea’ Sounding Great

by Dave Parrack on June 13th, 2008

Keane Tom Chaplin Live In Concert

Keane are absolutely one of my favourite British bands of the last decade. Their blend of soft rock with pop sensibilities, and the lack of a guitarist, has meant a certain amount of derision from some quarters of the press and public alike, but just put one of their albums on and you are instantly transported to your happy place.

So it is with great delight that I bring news that the band’s third album, as yet unnamed and undated, is nearly done, and could possibly be released before the end of the year. The news also gives me the chance to actually talk about the band for the first time here on Brit Music Scene, as since the site started they have been completely out of the news. But no longer.

Billboard is reporting via a blog post on the official Keane site from Tim Rice-Oxley that the the band are “nearly done” with the third album, the long-awaited follow-up to Under The Iron Sea from 2006.

Now that Keane are soon to be back and releasing new material, hopefully I’ll get the chance to talk more of my love for the group, who I saw live after the release of first album Hopes and Fears.

Under The Iron Sea was a brilliant album, but definitely suffered as a result of lead singer Tom Chaplin’s well publicised drink and drug problems at the time. This lead to the band arguing and almost splitting up before Rehab came to the rescue.

With these problems now hopefully behind the band, I have all my fingers and toes crossed that the new album is even better than Hopes and Fears - A tall order indeed.

    I. Am. So. Excited. Like, bounce-off-the-walls excited.

I really loved “Hopes and Fears” and was worried when “Under the Iron Sea” came out because all of the leaked songs sounded so different. The result was actually better than I hoped for. I wasn’t as huge a fan of “Is It Any Wonder” but 90% of that album was great. It was so much darker and richer than “Hopes.”

Naturally, I was pretty distressed when Tom fell on hard times but I’m really happy to hear that they are thisclose to releasing a new record.

Of course, I’m now going to go trolling through the internet in search of leaked tracks.

I love being Canadian but I hate that so many of my favorite bands are from that part of the world and they get so little exposure over here.

I guess it will give me an excuse to visit England (since my husband’s family being from there hasn’t been compelling enough, lol).

    Thanks for the post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
