Kylie Minogue Awarded In New Year Honours
Australian pop tartlet Kylie Minogue has been awarded the OBE (Order of the British Empire) in the New Years Honours List for 2007/08.
Kylie is the biggest music star to be honoured this time around, with only Jazzie B from 90s pop group Soul II Soul, and Jethro Tull singer Ian Anderson joining her in having their achievements awarded.

Although Kylie is Australian, she first found fame as a singer in the UK, under the Stock, Aitken and Waterman label. This was straight after appearing in Aussie soap Neighbours, which is probably more popular, even to this day in the UK than its native country.
It’s almost 20 years since those days, when she appeared on the scene, releasing the brilliant burst of pop cheese that was I Should Be So Lucky. She’s since made the UK her adopted home, and spends a good portion of her time here.
This award is a happy end to what has been a tumultuous period of time in Kylie’s life, having survived breast cancer, and making a return to acting by playing the Doctor’s assistant in the Doctor Who Christmas special.
Speaking from her Melbourne home, Kylie told the BBC:
“I feel deeply touched to be acknowledged by the UK, my adopted home, in this way. This last year I have felt so much love and support from everyone as I took greater steps back into the public domain, and it is with absolute gratitude and joy that I say farewell to 2007 and look forward to what the new year will bring.”
The annual honours list sees famous and ordinary people honoured for giving something special to their community or career, and recipients of the OBEs, MBEs and Knighthoods handed out get to meet the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
Good on you Kylie, I’ve been a fan for 20 years… from the days of having a crush on you as a young boy, to ogling the gold hotpants, to starting to actually enjoy the music.
