Led Zeppelin Keen To Headline Glastonbury?
Led Zeppelin have apparently been discussing the prospect of headlining the Glastonbury festival in 2008.
According to this week’s NME, the band are keen to do it, and follow in the footsteps of The Who, headliners on the main stage last year. But at this moment in time it doesn’t look very liekly that a deal will be struck.
Apparently, members of Led Zeppelin and Glastonbury head honcho Michael Eavis (pictured) have been talking about the possibility of it happening, but have hit a snag on the price.
Led Zep’s representatives in the discussion were after such a high price for the band to appear, that Eavis cut negotiations short. The reason is because he has price cap on paying performers, no matter how big or legendary, and this was over that self imposed limit.
So it’s a no go for now, but maybe still a possibility at some time in the future.
Either Led Zeppelin need to cut their price demands or Eavis needs to change the system.
The thing is, what motivation would he have to do so? Glastonbury already sells out within hours, and could probably sell 3 times over, so he needs Zep less than they need him.
This leaves the December 02 Arena gig as still the only chance fans have of seeing their heroes on stage, a luxury people are willing to pay £80,000, or strip naked for!

I never even considered trying to get tickets for the 02 arena gig and I was always planning on going to Glastonbury next year, so if this happens I will be in heaven!
Hopefully Led Zeppelin don’t need the money and will just do it for the experience of Glastonbury! You’re right that Eavis doesn’t need them… I was lucky to get tickets this year and I hope I am lucky again!

I think this will split people if it happens. Anyone who has tickets to the “one off” concert may be mildly pissed, while those like you, who are hoping to go to Glasto anyway will be very happy.
I’ve yet to get tickets for Glastonbury, maybe I need a faster internet connection this year!

More likely you need a network of friends all online and on the phone at the same time! Good luck for next year!
