Led Zeppelin World Tour: Jason Bonham Wants In - His Father Would Be Proud

by Dave Parrack on June 15th, 2008

Led Zeppelin Mothership Best Of AlbumCould it be that on this, Father’s Day 2008, a day to celebrate dads everywhere, that Jason Bonham has honoured his father John, the original drummer for Led Zeppelin who died in 1980, by making a full reunion world tour more likely to happen?

I’ve been covering the Led Zeppelin reunion here on Brit Music Scene religiously since the one-off London 02 Arena concert was first announced way back in early September of 2007. The reunion concert came and went, and was massively successful. But the gig had the knock-on effect of leaving many fans disappointed that it was all over, and they hadn’t succeeded in securing any of the much sought-after tickets for the event.

Since then we have been treated to an on-off rollercoaster ride of will they, won’t they. It was reported that the whole band were up for a full world tour except for lead singer Robert Plant, who reportedly turned down £100 million to take part.

Jimmy Page has remained resolutely in favour of a full reunion all the way through, and as recently as May was said to be trying to persuade Plant to change his mind. Page then teamed up with the Foo Fighters and celebrity fan Dave Grohl on stage last weekend to perform some songs together at Wembley.

Now, according to Digital Spy, Bonham Jr, who was quoted back in December as saying calls for a full tour were “greedy”, has told Radio 1 that he would love to take part in a world tour. He said:

“It’s up to [the rest of the band] but if it was up to me, I’d love to. It was a fantastic night, it was emotional, it was everything I wanted, and hoped it would be. I knew I could do it, but could I do it when it needed to be done, with the nerves and everything? It was phenomenal.”

“All I can say is that it was better than I could have imagined. My fingers are crossed [for a world tour] and I would do it in a heartbeat.”

This is great news, as the more current members of Led Zeppelin who get on board with the idea of embarking on a full world tour, the more pressure there will be on Robert Plant to also sign on the dotted line and give the fans what they want.

I would actually prefer to see Dave Grohl take over as the drummer if this does ever happen, but that’s just for selfish reasons. To keep everything historical in order, Bonham is the only man for the job.

Since when does Robert Plant owe anyone anything?
If it’s anything we the fans owe him and the rest of the members of Led Zeppelin a huge debt of gratitude for being the very best of the best Rock and Roll bands ever!
That is what Led Zeppelin is about past or present.
