Liam Gallagher Slags Off Radiohead, Coldplay Fans - Must Be New Album On Way

by User ImageDave Parrack on August 11th, 2008

How strange, we don’t hear a peep out of Oasis or the Gallagher brothers for months, and then as soon as a new album is on the way, they can’t keep their mouths shut. Surely after 17 years of being in the band, you’d think the pair would know better than to create some cheap publicity.

Liam Gallagher Is A Fascist_nc

We’ve already had Noel Gallagher slagging off the decision to have Jay-Z as headliner at Glastonbury. That ended with Noel having to eat his words as Jay-Z put on a brilliant performance. Now Liam has decided to go after Radiohead and Coldplay, and more importantly, their legions of fans.

Dig Out Your Soul is due out on October 6th, and the Mancunian brothers have started doing interviews with the press again in an effort to drum up some momentum. Liam spoke to Times Online about life, love, being a celebrity, and being a father. It was all delivered in his usual style, with the f word spread liberally around.

You can read the full interview if you want, but as is my job, I’m going to draw your attention to just the most obnoxious and intriguing things he said.

On his change of lifestyle:

“I’ve mellowed, but not in the sense of liking Radiohead or Coldplay. I don’t hate them. I don’t wish they had accidents. I think their fans are boring and ugly and they don’t look like they’re having a good time.”

On contemporary bands:

“Not interested. I play the Beatles, the Stones, the Kinks, Neil Young, the Pistols. Maybe a bit of the Roses. Don’t like modern bands. Topman music, innit?”

Didn’t I tell you? Articulate as usual. He seems to have missed out on the change we’ve recently seen in Coldplay, as they are now a band who definitely look like they are enjoying themselves.

Okay, Radiohead can be dour at times, but they are also probably the best band to emerge from the UK over the last 20 years. They are certainly better than Oasis. And although Noel has already seen fit to criticise the digital download release of In Rainbows, most of us saw it as a brilliant experiment.

As for the contemporary bands comment, well I can’t disagree on any of the older bands mentioned, although the Sex Pistols are now getting on my nerves, but Liam is clearly losing out by failing to listen to the newer bands emerging in Britain and beyond.

As I said before, the only reason Liam has said any of this is to gain some publicity for Oasis’ new album. And I’ve just given it to them. Is it better if I tell you not to go out and buy it?
