Live Earth Preview | Spinal Tap Reforming
Live Earth is nearly upon us, with the series of worldwide concerts all taking place on Saturday 7/7/07. It’s got to be said, the United Kingdom has by far the best line up of all, with more A List bands playing London than the rest put together. This isn’t about that though, I just had to big my home nation up.
First of all, let’s take a look at the bands playing in London on Saturday. We have Beastie Boys, Bloc Party, Duran Duran, Foo Fighters, Kasabian, Keane, Madonna, Metallica, Razorlight, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snow Patrol, and (the best British rock band that never was) Spinal Tap!
I found this video on YouTube of how the guys from Spinal Tap got back together to play this one last time for a good cause…
And what about British artists playing the rest of the world? Let’s have a look at who from our fair isles is performing where.
South Africa has Joss Stone and UB40.
America has KT Tunstall and The Police.
Germany has Katie Melua.
China bizarrely has Sarah Brightman.
And that’s about it for British imports for these concerts promoting Global Climate Change. When I say promoting, I don’t mean they are saying it’s a good thing, but rather these concerts are trying to bring the issue to peoples attention obviously.
I’ve already noticed that the wording has been changed in recent years from “Global Warming” to “Global Climate Change“. Is that because certainly here in the UK at least, it’s actually seemed to get cooler over the last decade since we first learned of the problem.
Regardless, I’m looking forward to these concerts immensely and just wish I could have got hold of tickets for the London gig. I refuse to pay a fortune to either some scumbucket on eBay or a tout at on the day (and don’t forget kids, it’s illegal). This Live Earth concert got to be better than the damp squib that was the ‘Concert for Diana’ surely.
I just hope that the artists taking part concentrate on the music and playing their big hits, rather than spouting their views to the watching masses about the climate and a need for change. We all know there’s a big problem, just let the music do the talking. We’ve had enough of Bono thinking he’s God haven’t we?
Let me know what you think about all of this. Did you go to one of the concerts? How excited are you about Spinal Tap getting back together? Do you think Bono should stick to music and stop telling us what to do?
