Oasis New Album ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ Previewed | YouTube Compilation Of Hits
There’s only two months left to wait until Oasis fans can get their hands on the new album, Dig Out Your Soul, due out on October 6th. A week before that, the first single from the album, The Shock Of The Lightning, will be released.
Oasis albums are a very mixed bag: some being must-owns full of classic indie tracks that any band would be proud to have written; others being pretty dire, repetitive and uninspired. You can usually tell which camp their new album is going to fall in to by the quality of the first single from that album.
Luckily for us, a snatch of that first single is previewed in an official trailer video for the album. The clip of The Shock Of The Lightning is right at the end, between 2:24 and 2:46, but the whole video is worth watching as it recounts all of the big hits through their career. The video as a whole is brilliant, and hearing each song again reminds me of certain times of my life. I hadn’t realised until watching this how Oasis albums and songs had punctuated my life so much. And as short as it is, the preview of the new single fills me with hope.
It sounds heavy, but musically sound, which is the kind of song I want from Oasis. Liam Gallagher sounds as awesome as ever, with his nasally vocals working brilliantly over the top of the bassline. After just two listens, I am hooked, and can’t wait for the new album. Which, I’m sure, was the whole point of producing the video and sticking on YouTube. In that case, job done.
Oasis may have come across like fascists in the past, and not everyone (me included) is completely enamoured with the Gallaghers’ attitude, but when it comes down to good old rock and roll music, there is still none finer in the UK than the lads from Manchester. Roll on October 6th.
