Pete Doherty Pleads Guilty To Drug Charges
Pete Doherty has pleaded guilty to drugs charges today, admitting to a series of offences relating back to his arrest on May 5th. How many times is this now?
I’m actually pretty sick or reading about, talking about and blogging about the Babyshambles singer’s run ins with the law over drugs, but what’s a guy to do? For starters, love him or loathe him, the guy is a legend in British music, despite his young age.
On May 5th, Doherty was pulled over by police for two driving offences, and was found in possession of marijuana and cocaine. After a strip search, ketamine and heroin were also found on him.
Doherty showed up for court over two hours late, and only eventually turned up after an arrest warrant was issued. The judge must have felt like his fans often do when he decides he can’t show up for his own gigs at the last minute.
I should say right here, right now that I dislike Pete, I don’t know if it’s the fact he’s a big junkie, or whether because I just don’t think he cuts the mustard with his music any more. Don’t get me wrong, I thought The Libertines were absolute class, with great songs, and a new sound which helped reinvent the Indie scene in this country. The problem is since then Doherty has been in a constant slide towards oblivion. Babyshambles are an ok band, but they are certainly no Libertines. Oh, and take that stupid hat off while you’re at it.
Doherty is due to reappear in court on August 7th for sentencing.
