Rolling Stones Mick Jagger Denies Quitting Touring | Not Too Keen On Glastonbury

by Dave Parrack on October 2nd, 2007

Mick Jagger FaceLast month I reported that the Rolling Stones would be quitting touring after their last date on the A Bigger Bang tour.

Speculation was rife that after that show on August 26 at the London 02 Arena the band would quit performing live due to age.

Now Mick Jagger has come out and said that the Rolling Stones will never quit, either producing music or performing live.

He said:

“I’m sure the Rolling Stones will do more things and more records and more tours. We’ve got no plans to stop any of that really.”

“As far as I’m concerned I’m sure we’ll continue.”

First of all yay, that’s good news, it means I may not have missed my chance to see them live once in my (and their) life after all. Whether Jagger has actually informed the rest of the band of this decision is not clear.

It seems that the Rolling Stones really are one of those bands who will “Rock till they drop” and good on them, proving age is no barrier.

One place we’re unlikely to see them performing at however is the Glastonbury festival. In the same BBC interview as he denied retiring, he also stated he couldn’t see the band ever performing in the wet weather at Glastonbury.

He said:

“I don’t want to play Glastonbury on the Sunday night in the pouring rain, which is what The Who did this year.”

“I was watching it on the telly, and my kids were there. I’m on the phone saying ‘it’s awful’.”

“They said it’s really fun, but it didn’t look fun to me. You’ve got to pick your slot.”

So maybe they will be tempted by Michael Eavis if he (as seems likely) comes knocking and asks them to perform, but they’d want to choose their own slot and be guaranteed that it won’t rain… a tall order when you’re talking about Britain!
