Spice Girls Reunion Tour Kicks Off In Canada | A Look Back At How We Got To This Point
The Spice Girls Reunion tour (or farewell tour depending on how things pan out) finally kicks off tonight in Vancouver, Canada. I’ve covered quite a bit of the build up here on Brit Music Scene (as well as on a couple of other blogs), so thought we should take a look back over how we got here.

Way back in June, The Spice Girls surprised no-one with the announcement that they were reuniting for a world tour. There had been rumours for months, and they were finally proved correct on June 28th at a press conference in London.
The tour was originally only made up of a few gigs, but after the first London concert sold out completely in 38 seconds, this was substantially ramped up. I put my name down for tickets (hey, I’m nostalgic and always in need of a bit of cheesy pop!) but baulked at the £75 asking price per ticket (yes, I’m also tight).
Then the girls announced their comeback single Headlines, which I panned on first listen. It was destined to be a sure fire hit, especially as the girls had teamed up with the BBC charity Children In Need, but unfortunately it’s crap!
So crap in fact that Radio 1 could only bring themselves to put it on the C grade play list, meaning it would only get one play per day.
The girls then argued on the video shoot for Headlines, and then I reviewed that same video, and again ripped it to shreds. So it seems as much as people wanted to see the girls sing their old hits live, they really weren’t too enamoured with the new material.
The girls then performed live on Children In Need, the first time they had been seen on stage together since they got back together. Well, I say performed live, unfortunately they took the terrible decision to mime, and badly too.
At least their new Christmas advert for Tesco is quite good!
And so here we are, on the verge of them truly making their comeback. Tonight will mark their first live concert together since 1998, so they’re bound to be a bit rusty. If the arguments don’t get in the way, and they manage to sing live rather than mime, then it may all go very well. Fingers crossed.
