Summers Hints The Police To Record Album Of New Material On Back Of World Tour
The Police are currently on a huge comeback World tour, where they have sold out every where they have been scheduled to play, and don’t seem to have lost any of the magic.
Now they may be about to test their fanbase and ability to work together by releasing an album of new material.
The Police broke up in 1984 after the workload and constant touring meant the band all ended up hating each other.
Lead guitarist Andy Summers has now spoken about the possibility of a new album being made by the trio:
“It’s sort of like living with the elephant in the room. I would see it as a challenge, to make an absolutely brilliant pop album at this stage of our career, and that would be something quite remarkable,”
“Right now it is just the tour and holding everything together, mentally, physically and musically. The tour and the travelling and the playing and the tension you have to keep to do it every night is all-devouring,”
“It is just too much.”
Summers was talking to reporters in a Dublin in Ireland, after the band played in front of 82,000 people at Dublin’s Croke Park.
I’m not convinced this is such a good idea, if it is even a serious idea. It seems Summers was talking from a personal perspective rather than passing on news about a discussion the band have had.
Okay it took five albums for the band to split up last time, but I can’t help thinking this could bring all those old rivalries and arguments back up.
Having said that, I’d love a new album from the group, and I can see it being absolutely brilliant, with a slightly new sound after Sting, Summers and Copeland have taken their own paths with individual solo projects.
The tour continues and will be running until next year.
