The Police Named Least Eco-Friendly Band In The World | Sting Destroying Forests?
So much for Sting’s green credentials.. his band The Police have been named as “the dirtiest band in the world” in a survey of live acts by NME magazine.
The Police, who reformed last year after years in the wilderness, topped the poll to find the bands with the best and worst records of eco-friendliness.
Their current world tour was the reason behind the large carbon footprint, which was responsible for them being the leaders of the poll to find the worst offenders for environmental pollution.
At the other end of the scale were Radiohead, who were named as the greenest band in the world. That’s mainly due to their experiment last year in releasing their album to fans over the Internet, thus doing away with the need for packaging, and the pollution causing fumes from shipping it around the world.
Pete Doherty’s band Babyshambles were also praised.
John Buckley of Carbonfootprint.com said:
“At Live Earth in New Jersey where The Police played, the biggest emissions weren’t from the concert, it was the fans.
“The Police played lots of big stadiums - they need to be careful over where they play, and make sure it’s near public transport.”
Brands being eco-friendly is becoming an ever increasing issue in this day and age, so this is bad news for Sting and The Police. He’s gone from fighting to save the rainforests to overnight being blamed for a portion of the world’s pollution.
As for Radiohead, well, their album is now on shop shelves everywhere, but hopefully the download only option will catch on, and prove profitable enough for artists and record companies alike that the physical release of an album becomes a thing of the past.
