The Spice Girls Are Grandmas In PVC! | At Least According To Reverend & The Makers
The Spice Girls may have had a very successful comeback in terms of ticket sales for their world tour, but their comeback single ‘Headlines’ bombed, despite being in aid of the Children In Need charity, and they got some heat last week for miming rather than singing live on television.
Now, John McClure, lead singer of the Reverend and the Makers has launched a scathing attack on the group, questioning their motives for returning and flinging some quite personal insults.
He told the Daily Star newspaper:
“The Spice Girls are in it for the money. They’re totally devoid of talent and everyone knows why they’re back. All these reunions of old codgers like them is f**king rubbish.”
“The Spice Girls look like d**kheads, walking around in PVC like grandmas.”
Hang on a minute, they’re not THAT old, although I agree that Posh Spice looks like a drag queen, who has been dressed by blind midgets, in the video for ‘Headlines’.
McClure didn’t stop his tirade against manufactured pop acts there either, deciding to launch a salvo at Simon Cowell,, who he described as the devil, who is to blame for all of the current music industry woes.
“It’s not fair on the musicians fighting a losing battle trying to get heard. The music industry is full of nepotism and I’d like to see the fat cats on their knees.”
“People like Simon Cowell are the Devil.”
I’m not going to say a word because, well quite frankly, I’m laughing too hard.
So why would the Reverend suddenly have come out with this stream of bile I wonder? Oh look, they have a new song out… that explains it.
Open Your Window was released on Monday, and will probably sell a few more copies purely on the strength of this interview.

I’d buy the single on the strength of that (if I bought singles, though the Reverend can’t complain, I already have bought and love the album).
If anyone else regroups I would be perfectly willing to go on a tirade against all manufactured pop groups doing it, then doing it again for the money. Sadly, since I’m only the bassist of a very small band it probably wouldn’t make much difference, even if we did have a single out! One day… one day I will be able to slag off manufactured bands and people will care, until then, I’m behind John McClure!
