The Verve Reform & Announce Tour
The Verve, one of the best British bands of the 90s, are back, in a twist to their story which no-one saw coming. When the band split in 1999, it was so acrimonious, I certainly thought that was it for the Indie Alternative group. Instead, here they are back together, and set to tour in November.
Richard Ashcroft and his song writing partner Stuart McCabe fell out in spectacular style, with the latter leaving the band prematurely even before the official split in April 1999, 10 years after they originally formed. Ashcroft obviously went on to have a successful solo career, but has never reached the heights of his work with The Verve.
Tickets for the November tour go on sale at 9am on Friday 6th June. As well as the tour, the band plan to write together again and work is due to begin on a new album in the summer.

Glasgow Academy – November 2nd & 3rd
Blackpool Empress Ballroom – 5th & 6th
London Roundhouse – 8th & 9th
I really can’t stress enough what a surprise this is to me and millions of Verve fans around the world. This is actually the second time the Wigan born band have reformed, the first being in 1996, after they split due to poor album sales. Richard Ashcroft is quoted as saying after the second split “it is more likely that all four of The Beatles would be getting back together than us reforming.”
The band’s greatest success to date has been the album ‘Urban Hymns‘ which reached Number 1 in the UK charts and went 8x platinum. Songs to come from that album are now regarded as anthems and include ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ and ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’.
I can’t wait to hear what an 8 year break has done for the sound and style of the band, and await the new album with baited breath. Britpop may be dead, but The Verve are back!

It’s weird how all the big 90s bands are deciding to give it another shot Emma, I agree.
