U2 Bono Is Jesus Christ | But Then We Already Knew That Didn’t We?
Bono from U2 has for years seen himself as a kind of modern day Jesus: miracle worker, saviour of the masses, hero to the poor, purveyor of loud rock music. Actually as you can see he’s bigger than Jesus, the former never was any good at singing. Anyway, it seems that an artist has picked up on this trend of the Irish rock singer’s conversion to second coming, and sculpted Bono as Jesus.

Dutch sculptor Frans Smeets has constructed this piece of art which he calls ‘Jesus Loves You Too’ a slightly controversial piece which shows the U2 front man as the messiah, complete with an emaciated African child at his feet.

I’ve got to say this is class, I love it. OK, it’s slightly freaky, and having Bono standing there in his trademark sunglasses and bored “I couldn’t care less” expression is kind of depressing, but it’s accurate none the less.
Following on from a pregnant Britney Spears on all fours, it seems the art world has decided it’s open season on the world of pop stars and celebrities. Good on them, someone has to bring some of these holier than thou artists back down to the real world sometimes.

This is a slap in the face to both Jesus *and* Bono! I mean, take away the wraparounds and it doesn’t even resemble him! But even if it did, this is just poor taste in both ethics and art!
